Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) by Tampa Counselor and Therapist Audrey Clark, LMHC
Depression and Anxiety can seem so different, and yet so often they go hand in hand. It really has a lot to do with your focus.
Depression tends to be past-focused. You focus on thoughts such as: "I could've done this... I would've done that... I should've said this." But that's in the past. You cannot change that. So if you're really fixating on a past that you cannot change, you sink into kind of a feeling of hopelessness. That's the hallmark of drepression, hopelessness.
Anxiety is typically future-focused worry. So you say to yourself: "I need to do this... I need to do that... I've got to accomplish this... How am I ever going to get all of this done?" Future-focused worry.
So they kind of go hand-in-hand... Past and Future...
What are you missing? Now! You are missing the present moment, “Mindfulness.”
By focusing on the past and the future, you are missing the present moment. Mindfulness is the act of being mindful in the present moment, and I would like to help you stop fixating on the "could've... would've ... should've" and stop fixating on the "must do this... must do that... I'm never gonna make it," and bring you into this Moment to appreciate your life.
